Mayūrpankh — Pure Kora Silk Banarasi Saree

There is a colour in nature that has no fixed name — it shifts from emerald to teal to midnight depending on how the light falls upon it. The peacock knows this colour intimately; it lives in the feather closest to his heart. The old poets called it Mayūrpankh — peacock-feather green — and wove it into silk whenever they wished to capture something that could not quite be pinned down.

The Mayūrpankh is a resplendent Bottle Green Pure Kora Silk Banarasi Saree — sheer, luminous, and light as breath on the skin, yet carrying the full grandeur of Banarasi weaving in its border and pallu. Kora silk is raw, translucent silk, prized for centuries for its gossamer drape and its ability to hold colour with a depth that heavier weaves cannot. It moves like water and catches light like glass.

Across the deep green ground, the fabric shifts in tone with every fold — teal in shadow, emerald where the light touches it — echoing the iridescence of the peacock's own plumage, the bird sacred to Kartikeya, the harbinger of the monsoon, the eternal symbol of grace, pride, and quiet unhurried beauty.

The pallu and border are rendered in rich gold zari — dense botanical and paisley motifs in the true Banarasi idiom, framing the sheer green body like gold leaf around an emerald. The interplay of the gossamer fabric against the density of the zari gives the saree a rare duality — ethereal, yet unmistakably regal.

This is a saree for the woman who carries her elegance the way the peacock carries his feathers — without ever needing to unfurl them to be noticed.

Pair with antique gold, polki, or emerald jewellery. A bottle green or gold blouse will complement this saree beautifully.
