Patrangi — Patola Silk Saree with Embellished Work

There is a colour that exists only where a leaf catches light and shadow at once — deep green at its centre, edged with brown where it has begun to turn, veined with gold where the sun finds it. The old word for this living, layered hue is Patrangi, leaf-coloured, a shade that belongs entirely to the forest floor and to nothing manufactured.

The Patrangi is a resplendent Green and Brown Patola Silk Saree with Embellished Work — crafted using the double ikat technique, the most technically demanding weave in the textile world, where both warp and weft threads are painstakingly tie-dyed before being set on the loom, so precisely aligned that the pattern seems to rise from within the fabric itself. Across the body, a dense lattice of geometric diamonds unfolds in forest green, ochre, maroon, and ivory — the traditional Patola vocabulary, punctuated throughout with the ornamented elephant motif, gaja, the bearer of Lakshmi and an eternal symbol of prosperity and strength.

The border and pallu carry the saree's most elaborate passage — an intricate hand-embellished panel in brown and gold, densely worked with mirrors, beads, and sequins in traditional Gujarati embroidery, framed by twin stripes of green and mustard zari. This embellished border transforms the saree from heirloom weave to bridal statement, layering contemporary handwork over centuries-old ikat artistry. A cascade of gold tassels at the pallu's edge completes its festive, processional character.

This is a saree for the woman marking a threshold moment — for the Patola has always been worn at weddings and beginnings, carrying with it the forest's own quiet, layered abundance and the promise of prosperity that follows.

Pair with temple gold, kundan, or pearl jewellery in green and gold tones. An orange, rust, or contrast-toned blouse will echo this saree's rich, leaf-hued palette beautifully.

Patola Silk is a rare, heirloom-grade weave — handle it as you would a family treasure.

Dry Clean Only — do not machine or hand wash, especially with the mirror and bead embellishment
Iron on minimum temperature — always on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the embellished border
Store folded in muslin or cotton cloth, laid flat where possible to protect the embellishment — refold periodically along different lines to prevent permanent creasing
Avoid direct contact with perfume, deodorant, or sprays — apply these before draping
Keep away from prolonged sunlight and moisture — to preserve the depth of the green-brown ikat and the vibrancy of the embellishment
Handle the embellished border and tasselled pallu gently to prevent snagging or loosening
Blouse piece: Dry wash only
