Rakthavarna — Red Chanderi Silk Saree

There is a red that lives between two hours — the deep crimson of dusk and the bright pink of dawn — a colour that refuses to be pinned to a single name because it belongs to both. The old Sanskrit word for this restless, living red is Raktavarna, blood-hue, the colour of pulse and passion, worn since antiquity at moments when the heart is meant to be seen, not hidden.

The Rakthavarna is a luminous Red Chanderi Silk Saree — woven in Chanderi, the town whose silk has been prized since the Mughal era for its sheer, glass-like texture and its rare ability to shift between two tones within a single thread. Held to the light, the fabric moves between deep red and magenta-pink, never settling on one, alive with colour the way a flame is alive with movement.

Scattered across this shifting ground, gold and silver zari booti motifs bloom like scattered petals — small leaf and floral discs catching the light with every fold, some rendered in warm gold, others in cool silver, adding a quiet duality to the surface. The pallu carries the saree's most ornate passage — a vertical procession of dense gold zari medallions in the traditional Chanderi idiom, bordered by a rich woven hem that anchors the sheer, floating body in solid, burnished gold.

This is a saree for the woman unafraid to be seen fully — her presence as layered and unrepeatable as the colour she wears, shifting, catching light, never quite the same twice.

Pair with antique gold, kundan, or ruby jewellery. A deep pink, wine, or gold blouse will echo this saree's shifting warmth beautifully.

Chanderi Silk is a fine, sheer textile prized for its shimmer, and it rewards gentle handling.

Dry Clean Only — do not machine or hand wash
Iron on minimum temperature — always on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the zari border
Store folded in muslin or cotton cloth — refold periodically to prevent permanent creasing and to preserve the fabric's natural shimmer
Avoid direct contact with perfume, deodorant, or sprays — apply these before draping
Keep away from prolonged sunlight and moisture — to preserve the depth of the red shimmer and the lustre of the zari
Handle with care — Chanderi is a lightweight, sheer weave that can snag on jewellery or rough surfaces
Blouse piece: Dry wash only
