Dhoop-Chhaanv — Pure Chanderi Silk Saree with Mirror Lace Border

Dhoop-chhaanv — literally "sunlight and shade" — is an old Hindi phrase used to describe fabric that shifts colour with the light, glowing orange in the sun and deepening to red in shadow. It's a technique as old as handloom weaving itself, and this saree wears it beautifully, its warm coral-orange base shimmering into deeper red tones with every fold and movement.

Woven in pure Chanderi silk, the fabric carries its signature crisp, sheer lightness — a texture prized for centuries for its glossy translucence and gentle drape. Scattered evenly across the body, small woven gold buttis catch the light like scattered petals, paired with fine dotted zari work that adds subtle texture without weighing down the fabric's natural airiness.

Where the saree truly turns modern is at its border — a bold strip of mirror work framed in gold sequin trim, running the length of both edges. The mirrors catch and scatter light with every movement, giving the saree a contemporary, statement-making edge that sets it apart from more traditional zari borders — a fusion of handloom heritage and modern embellishment.

This is a saree for the woman who wants tradition with an edge — one who carries dhoop-chhaanv's shifting light and mirror work's modern shimmer in a single length of silk.

Pair with oxidised silver or Kutch-style mirror jewellery for a boho-modern look, or antique gold for a more festive finish. A contrasting blouse in gold, ivory, or deep maroon will let the mirror border take centre stage.

Care Instructions

Chanderi silk is fine and sheer by nature — light in the hand, but the mirror and zari work need gentle care to keep their shine.

Dry Clean Only — do not machine or hand wash
Iron on low heat, always on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the mirror border
Store folded in muslin or cotton cloth, away from direct sunlight, to preserve the depth of the colour
Refold periodically along different lines to prevent permanent creasing of the sheer fabric
Handle with care to avoid snagging the mirror work on jewellery or rough surfaces
Avoid direct contact with perfume or deodorant — spray well before draping
Blouse piece: Dry wash only
