Gajarāni — Patola Silk Saree with Embellished Work

There is a weave in Gujarat so precise, so painstaking, that royal households once measured their wealth by how many they owned. The old saying goes that a genuine Patola never fades — "padi phaटी, pan fatee nahi," it may tear, but it will not lose its colour. Woven into this legacy is a motif reserved for royalty and celebration alike — the elephant, gaja, bearer of Lakshmi, symbol of prosperity, strength, and auspicious beginnings.

The Gajarāni is a resplendent Navy Blue Patola Silk Saree with Embellished Work — crafted using the double ikat technique, where both warp and weft threads are painstakingly tie-dyed before weaving, so that the pattern emerges from within the fabric itself rather than sitting atop it. This is one of the most technically demanding weaves in the world, traditionally taking months to complete, since even a fractional misalignment of thread can throw off the entire design. Across the navy body, a dense geometric lattice in coral, cream, and mustard unfolds — small motifs repeating with the hypnotic precision only true double ikat can achieve.

The border and pallu blaze into a vivid pink-red, carrying the Patola's most celebrated motif — a procession of ornamented elephants, rendered in the angular, faceted style native to the craft. This border has been further elevated with hand-embellished mirror and bead work, adding dimension and sparkle to the traditional weave — a contemporary hand meeting an ancient loom. Tasselled gold danglers at the pallu's edge complete the saree's regal, festive character.

This is a saree for the woman marking an occasion that matters — a Patola has always been worn at thresholds, weddings, and beginnings, carrying with it centuries of craft and the quiet promise of prosperity.

Pair with temple gold or kundan jewellery in coral, red, or emerald tones. A red or contrast pink blouse will complete this saree's regal, celebratory character.

Patola Silk is a rare, heirloom-grade weave — handle it as you would a family treasure.

Dry Clean Only — do not machine or hand wash, especially with the mirror and bead embellishment
Iron on minimum temperature — always on the reverse side, avoiding direct heat on the embellished border
Store folded in muslin or cotton cloth, laid flat where possible to protect the embellishment — refold periodically along different lines to prevent permanent creasing
Avoid direct contact with perfume, deodorant, or sprays — apply these before draping
Keep away from prolonged sunlight and moisture — to preserve the depth of the navy and the vibrancy of the ikat colours
Handle the embellished areas gently — mirror and bead work can snag or loosen with rough handling
